India: Delhi
Indira Gandhi International (DEL)
BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: Taxi

BASICS
The airport is located 12 miles (20 km) west of the center of Delhi.

TAXI
A taxi is the easiest way to make your trip to the center of Delhi, especially if you're not familiar with the city. Simply go to the taxi counter (in the arrivals area outside customs) and purchase a ticket to your destination. Then use the ticket to pay the driver, eliminating any uncertainty over fares. Metered cabs are available, but not recommended.

The trip will cost around 140 to 180 rupees ($3-$4), and a trip to the center of Delhi will take from 30 to 45 minutes.

BUS
An Airlink bus service operates all day to the city center. It goes to Connaught Place, but will stop at hotels along the route. From Connaught Place you can take a taxi, or an auto-rickshaw if you are traveling light, to your final destination. The fare is less than $1, around 25 rupees, and it will take about 45 minutes for the trip. The bus is not always reliable, which is why a cab paid for with a pre-purchased ticket is recommended.

RENTAL CAR
Cars with drivers are available for the trip from the airport. They will cost four or five times the taxi fare, but it will be a much smoother trip. Check with the tourist information counter for booking information. Self-drive rentals are not available in India.
