BASICS
Kansai International is 30 miles (50 km) northeast of the center of Osaka. The airport's Web site includes: TAXI
Taxi fare to the center of Osaka will be about 18,000 yen ($164). It will take about an hour to get to the city center hotels.

BUS
An airport bus service is available to Osaka and the nearby cities Kobe and Kyoto. The fare to the rail station in central Osaka is about 1,700 yen ($15) and takes about an hour. From the station you can finish your journey by taxi, or take the subway. Service to both Kobe and Kyoto costs around 1,800 yen ($16), and takes about an hour and a half. TRAIN
Limited Express "Haruka" trains to Shin Osaka station cost 2,930 yen ($27), and the trip takes 45 minutes. Advance reservations are required. The Kanku Kaisoku express train takes just over an hour and costs 1140 yen ($10). Service to Kobe and Kyoto costs 1,800 yen ($16) and takes an hour and a half. Trains leave every 30 minutes from 6:02 A.M. to 10:32 P.M.

RENTAL CAR
Rental cars are available at the airport and various agencies throughout Osaka. Driving is very difficult in Osaka, so beware. And you'll need an international driving permit from AAA or your local DMV. Avis, Hertz, Nippon, Nissan, and Toyota are only a few of many firms operating in Osaka.
