Romania: Bucharest
Otopeni International Airport (OTP)
BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: Bus

BASICS
Otopeni is located 10 miles (16 km) north of the center of Bucharest.

TAXI
In most Eastern European cities taking a taxi from the airport is a necessary evil. Bucharest is no exception. The drivers are very aggressive, and you need to stand your ground by acting bold and as though you have been to Bucharest before. As always, try to get past the hustlers in the terminal and go outside to the taxi line. The fare should be about 22,000 to 25,000 leu ($1 to $2), but most of the taxi drivers will want US dollars or deutsche marks.

BUS
There is regular bus service from Otopeni to the city center. The bus leaves every 30 to 60 minutes throughout the day. The bus stops at the main squares, and at the Tarom Airlines Building in central Bucharest. From the Tarom office you can get more information, or take a taxi to your final destination. You can buy a ticket when boarding. The fare is less than 1,750 leu ($1).

RENTAL CAR
Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and other smaller firms have offices in the airport, in the city center, and at some of the larger hotels.
