Thailand: Bangkok
Don Muang International Airport (BKK)
BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: Limousine

BASICS
Don Muang International is located 15 miles (22 km) from the center of Bangkok. A tourist information desk in the arrivals hall is open from 8:00 A.M. to midnight. On the airport's Web site, a traveller can find: TAXI
Taxis are available but not generally recommended. They can be found outside the terminal. There are no meters in Thai taxis traveling between the airport and Bangkok, so be sure to agree on a fare before you depart—it should be around 180 to 250 Thai baht ($7.50-$10).

LIMOUSINE
By far the best way to get to any point in Bangkok is with the Thai Airways Limousine Service. After exiting from customs you simply go to the Thai Airways Limousine counter and tell them your destination. You prepay the fare, so there's no need to negotiate with a driver, and the cars are clean and air conditioned. Fare starts at 650 Thai baht ($16) for a private limousine, and 150 Thai Bhat ($6) for a shared mini-van. Travel time is 30 to 90 minutes depending on traffic.

TRAIN
Train service is available from the airport to the central station. You can catch a shuttle bus to the airport train station, a short ride across the main highway from Don Muang International. Fare to the central station is about 100 Thai baht ($4) which includes the shuttle bus.

Purchase tickets at the Thai Airways Limousine counter in the arrivals hall. Travel time to central Bangkok is about 35 minutes. Upon arrival, you can take a taxi from the train station to your hotel. The train is best for people who are traveling light and on a tight budget and is not recommended for first-time tourists.

AIRPORT BUS
The fare for an airport bus can't be beat; it's around 70 Thai baht ($2). Board the bus at the platform area in front of either Terminal 1 or 2. There are three routes, A1, A2, and A3, so consult a map before using the airport buses. Room for luggage does not abound.

RENTAL CAR
Major rental car companies have counters both at the airport and in the city, but if you are traveling only within the city of Bangkok, a car is not recommended.
